Aava Mobile Sponsors Design Invitational for Tablets & Smartphones
New York & Oulu, Finland — February 4, 2011 — In partnership with Core77, Aava Mobile (www.aavamobile.com) has published future design scenarios for smartphones and tablet computers created by a hand selected group of industrial designers from around the world.
Aava Mobile accelerates design innovations in mobile consumer electronics by providing a pre-engineered chassis around which OEM/ODMs can quickly build custom hardware skins, user interfaces and applications. The chassis, known as the ‘Aava Core,’ is a certified, integrated ACPU and modem platform that runs both Android and MeeGo provides everything needed for manufacturers to ramp immediately to high volume production.
To show the range of devices that can be made using the Aava Core, Aava Mobile partnered with industrial design powerhouse Core77 to choose five leading industrial designers for two design invitational challenges.
“We first combed through the 200,000+ portfolios on our Coroflot.com site to find five of the most creative thinkers and sketchers in the world of consumer products,”" said Allan Chochinov, editor in chief of Core77. “The second phase of our design invitational challenged two specific designers to create fully rendered designs intended for production.”
“The Aava Core has everything a designer could want — large screen, minimal clutter, and an insanely thin chassis that lets you wrap beautiful design around it,” said Alberto Villareal, one of the industrial designers selected by Core77. Another selected designer, Thomas Valcke, added, “The processor speed and battery life and camera and screen capabilities of the Aava Core meant that we were free to imagine any design scenario without limitations.”
“In the hands of these talented designers, the beauty of our Aava Core engineering really shines. We are able to show handset manufacturers the flexibility and design innovation that they can build on top of our chassis, and demonstrate how quickly they can bring new products to market,” said Piotr Fransunkiewicz, co-founder of Aava Mobile.
